Accommodation on tour and single room options

There is very little tourist accommodation in Sudan outside Khartoum. Please note that even the capacities in Meroe and Karima are limited. All accommodation displayed in the tour itineraries is intended as a guide only, as it is always subject to availability. For any alternatives, we will strife to provide a similar standard.

Group tours are based on travellers sharing twin-bedded rooms. If you want to book a single room, we charge a supplement, as indicated in the respective trip notes. Single room supplements only apply for accommodation in Khartoum, Meroe and Karima. However, the booking does not guarantee you a single room for every night as the number of single rooms available in the Meroe Camp and the Karima resthouse are limited and will be confirmed in the order of registration. If you have booked the single room option and we are unable to provide a single room, we will refund a proportion of the supplement. For details please refer to the individual tour notes.

Qualities, availabilities and prices of hotels in Khartoum are changing constantly. In order to secure the best service, we regularly check offers and book the best option. Our local accommodation partners are the Grand Holiday Villa Hotel and the Acropole Hotel.

Meroe Permanent Tented Camp

Three kilometres away from the Royal Necropolis, the Meroe Camp offers a beautiful view of this unique site. Accommodation consists of tastefully furnished twin-bedded tents and newly-constructed bunglows, each with its own veranda, electricity and private bathroom. Please note that the number of single rooms available is limited and will be given out in the order of registration.

Nubian Resthouse in Karima

Incorporating local architecture and influenced by Nubian styles, this charming small hotel is surrounded by carefully cultivated gardens. Its weather-worn and ornate Nubian door presents an intriguing welcome for arriving guests. Sitting at the foot of Jebel Barkal, the Nubian Resthouse offers a relaxing base for visiting the sights of the Napatan region. The 22 rooms come with private verandas and feature traditional hand-laid brick domes. Each room has an en-suite bathroom and air conditioning, whilst an excellent restaurant forms part of the main building. Please note that the number of single rooms available is limited and will be given out in the order of registration.

Camping in the desert is a fantastic experience. It does, however, take a bit of preparation. We use igloo tents of roughly 2 x 2.5 m size, 5 cm thick foam mattresses, a sheet and a pillow. While the tents are laid out for three occupants by the manufacturer, we supply one tent to each traveller upon request, without charging a single supplement. There are folding chairs and tables for breakfast and dinner, whilst lunches are taken on carpets spread on the ground, Bedouin style. There are no toilets or showers, but we supply hand-basins to wash. Whilst the crew is setting up camp and preparing meals, you are expected to erect your own tent (an easy procedure taking not more than 10 minutes), and totake it down and pack it up in the morning. We supply all camping equipment apart from sleeping bag and towels.
